What is the Re-Entry Permit and why does it matter?

PRs need a valid REP to travel. Since 1 Dec 2025, a PR abroad without one must apply within 180 days or lose PR — with no reinstatement.

A valid REP is needed whenever a PR travels out of Singapore. New PRs receive a 5-year REP (S$50) at completion of formalities; renewals cost S$10 per year.
From 1 December 2025: a PR who leaves without a valid REP, or whose REP expires abroad, must apply within 180 days or lose PR status. PR is also lost if that application is refused.
There is no longer any avenue to reinstate PR once lost, and no appeal; a new PR application would be needed.
PRs must show “a commitment to continue contributing to Singapore” to be issued an REP.
New conduct conditions also apply from 1 December 2025; permits can be cancelled for undesirable conduct.
